Turned on the lathe. A voluptuous form in which the focus is pulled into the centred void (I’d like to think the focus goes into the unknown).

This particular piece comes from a tree that I harvested in Zeeland with a friend. After we felled the tree the trunk laid on the side of the pond for more than a year before I took it to the studio and started the rough work. After a rough blank was made it sat on a studio shelf to dry for another year or so. Now it finally has its form, silently.

It is finished with multiple layers of thin blue paint, applied whilst the piece was slowly turning on the lathe. The spalting lines in the wood beneath the painted surface is slightly visible but only when inspected closely.

This piece was once a large ash tree. The object is made from the stem of the tree and is made of one single piece of ash. The three visual rings accentuate the woodgrain and the wavelike shape in the object.
The split on the bottom right side gives this object tension, it was already in the wood when I started turning it. It is a ‘dry crack’ that makes room in the wood as it dries. It will not crack any further because the wood was dry as I started and because it is been fixated on the back of the piece by an inlayed butterfly (not in sight when hung on the wall).
Turned on the lathe. Finished with a flat/ matt finish which makes it look almost untreated.

Unique wall object in maple.

A calm ‘single wave’ form that is directed at the void in the centre. Made from a single piece of light maple and made even lighter in colour by adding white ink and pigment.

Turned on the lathe.
Finished with a white ink, pigment and linseed based oil.

A wall object with the flowing lines of distinct ash growth rings, ranging in colour from the darker ‘olive ash’ core to the lighter outer rings of the trees growth. A shape inspired by the holes seen in trees, where a branch has broken or been cut off, and the tree repairs itself by growing its bark back over or even in the scarred area. Sometimes I think of this as a very slow wave, rolling into the hole.

The sides on this object have been painted light grey. The back ring has been painted red to give the centre a subtle glow on the wall in certain lighting conditions.

This object is turned on the lathe, sanded and finished with a matt (almost invisible) oil to give it a natural appearance.

This piece can be hung in two orientations: lines running vertical or lines running horizontal.

A large black wall object which seems to be made of three rings (but is actually made from a single piece of elm) directed to the void in the centre. The black and oil finish accentuates the grain in this elm in a subtle way. In certain lighting conditions a slight red glow can appear on the wall in the centre.
