Reinder Schmidt
Reinder Schmidt creates ‘Textile Landscapes’ by sewing textile scraps together to form a new canvas, with the making process constituting the essence of the artwork. The materials and structures provide depth, allowing light to interact with the forms, and the color determines the atmosphere. The act of sewing is an artistic gesture through which the history of the fabrics shines through. As a fashion designer, Reinder witnesses the large amount of residual material left over from garment production.
By giving textiles a new life, he not only creates artworks that celebrate the beauty of materiality, structure, and form, but simultaneously emphasizes how we manage our waste.
