Van Lier has been realizing unique objects made of clear and colored optical glass. The purity, transparency and technical perfection of this material fit seamlessly with his formal language. Using the same geometric principles—circle, square, ellipse-he now creates objects that seem to constantly change character through light, refraction and reflection. The idea that form is autonomous-that a line, a plane, a volume carries meaning in itself. Light and shadow are not an afterthought, but an integral part of the composition.
