Although Mart Visser is best known for his work as a fashion designer, he has been active as an artist for decades. He intuitively manufactures sculptures and paintings and experiments with formats and use of materials. As with his modernist fashion design, structure, relief, texture and technique reinforce the design.

“As a spectator, you surround yourself with the silence and peace that the person or the individual radiates on a canvas; you immerse yourself in it, as it were. In this way I also look at a person; the contours, the wrinkles and the surface distribution of the face. A single change of a line immediately changes the look or expression of the more than nine thousand facial features that the human face has.

The layering of a face or the play with shadow where the contours are partially visible; only then does an image become interesting to me.”
