Exclusively by Karien Kortenhorst
The Space Beyond.
Karien is a Dutch artist who recently took her first step into the public realm with a grand sculptural work. Her technical background as a goldsmith and her specialization in contemporary jewelry at the Art academy shaped her artistry which, after 30 years, has manifested in this monumental sculpture ‘The Space Beyond’.
Karien is fascinated by how the material can reflect the concept. She uses steel, aluminum, brass and copper, which she twists, bends, hammers and wraps, based on the properties and qualities of the material.
‘The Space Beyond’ is an artwork where the sky is framed so that space becomes visible. This takes on meaning: it can be an opening, a pause or a place to linger in. This grand outdoor sculpture, made of hammered aluminium and supported with a contribution of the Mondriaan Fund, measures 3.20m x1.70m x 1m. Please contact us for price details.

‘Creating this monumental piece was a journey of trust and discovery.’
‘It wasn’t crafted from precise technical drawings but shaped by observing how the material responded and adapting along the way. It reflects my ongoing quest to explore the relationship between space, boundaries and material.’ – Karien Kortenhorst
