BIOGRAPHY

Francisca (born 1962) originally graduated as a fashion designer. She has made quite a journey in her career in exploring different disciplines such as sculpture and ceramics.

Always looking for alienating materials, she ended up with residual materials from the rubber industry in 2006. The flexibility of the material fascinates her immensely. She allows herself to be surprised by the rubber itself and the outcome of the forms, partly through the techniques she applies.
The jewellery is very varied. From small conservative to large and expressive. These fall under the Difranci label; each piece of jewellery is a unique piece. (2006)

The next step in her development came in 2018. She was looking for a different form in her urge for expression, but still fascinated by residual materials from the industry. As her statement jewellery was presented as stand-alone objects in an International Textile Biennial, this took her the step further in her development.

The starting point is still to create new visual forms with the industrial remains, but now in creating objects and sculptures. Texture and structure are the main elements she uses. Working directly with the material in her hands creates the forms. Among other things, she uses old craft techniques such as crochet and knitting. By working intuitively, the work grows under her fingers and she has no preconceived idea.

Using and reusing materials has become an art of living for her.
These objects seem to come from the deep sea. Sometimes they are reminiscent of coral or other wondrous organisms, hence the Latin names.
In addition to her coloured objects, a whole white collection Bleached has also emerged.
