Cathalijn Wouters
Cathalijn Wouters (Tilburg, 1955) has built a distinctive oeuvre through a refined interplay of line, form, and emotion. Trained at St. Joost in Breda, she works from her Amsterdam studio, where painting and drawing unfold in close dialogue. Her calligraphic line and strong sense of composition reflect both direct observation and a deep engagement with art history. Large-scale canvases, often enriched with collage, combine tangible imagery with longing, memory, and psychological depth. Her work balances physical gesture with formal precision, inviting viewers beyond appearance into the emotional charge of the image. With residencies in Paris and New York and exhibitions in New York, Shanghai, Frankfurt, Ghent, and Amsterdam, Wouters’ practice continues to grow internationally.

A thought, a note, a sketch, a book connects me with my work. It’s in the air. Something that is sensed. That feeling or thought is a key to unlock my next painting.
