Büşra Köken
Büşra (b. 1992) is an abstract painter based in Amsterdam. Her colors relate the way people do, pulled together and changed by proximity. She is drawn to a simple idea with endless reach: nothing exists on its own. We become different versions of ourselves depending on who — and what — surrounds us: softened by one person, sharpened by another, steadied or unsettled by the rooms we move through. On the surface, her paintings are quiet: open spaces, thin layers, a few shapes holding tension between them. Spend a little longer, and they start to feel like small negotiations between closeness and distance, weight and lightness, comfort and uncertainty.
