Alexandra Verkerk
Alexandra Verkerk graduated from the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 1986. Immediately after graduating, she settled with fellow artists at the WG site in Amsterdam, where she still has her studio today.
Her early work was abstract and expressionistic. Over time, realistic elements began to appear in her paintings, which she then immediately abstracts again. This gives the viewer something to fantasize about, to wander through, and to delve into. To this day, this is what drives her: getting lost, but also creating order. Her work explores various themes, such as urbanity versus nature and interior versus exterior.
