Artist and exhibition maker Astrid de Pauw (NL, 1973) After studying Design and Communication (1998), Astrid obtained her Bachelor of Fine Art, specializing in drawing, at the Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam (2012). Her work is included in various corporate collections and publications. In addition to her work as a visual artist, Astrid is active as a curator. She created exhibitions for Psynapse Gallery for three years, organized the Openstudios Borgerstraat during Artweek Rotterdam for a number of years and is the founder of Y/OUR GALLERY: a hybrid gallery that creates exhibitions at changing locations, usually in a home environment. Since October 2023, Astrid de Pauw is gallery manager of WTC Rotterdam Art Gallery.
- Astrid de Pauw explores the fine line between memory, dream and reality. Her drawings show fine lines, bright colours and light in which the artist tries to capture the thoughts of the viewer. The layering in the work, the use of colour and the direction and intersection of the drawn lines allow for coincidences in the image. This is an important part in the act of drawing. By looking for processes that cannot be directly controlled, a challenge to bring the work into a certain balance or imbalance remains.“Both, the act of drawing and looking at the work, give space to think. Although the patterns are lavish, the whole image gives a certain peace, as if the pause button of life is pressed for a moment and there is time to wonder.”
